Richmond, Virginia, September 24

The opening of Gallery at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond took place September 24. It seemed like half of Richmond was there. Then again, 200 artists and craftspeople had work in the fundraiser for the church, from fine furniture to quilted wall hangings to stained glass. And, of course, fused glass. The show runs five days, Wednesday evening till Sunday afternoon.

It’s a tightly programmed event, well organized for the artists and for the buyers. In the end, of the 12 pieces I took, 8 were sold. This is very exciting, since 7 were ‘Tiny Treasures’. These are created for the frames they’re in — frames for the most part that are recycled, finds from thrift stores that make them one of a kind.
